Arthrosamid Joint Injections for Knee Arthritis

What is Arthrosamid injections and are they for my knee arthritis?

Arthrosamid® – is a Non-Surgical Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis.

Arthrosamid® is a single-injection hydrogel treatment designed to reduce pain and improve knee function in people living with knee osteoarthritis.

Knee osteoarthritis can cause persistent pain, stiffness and difficulty with everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs or exercising. Arthrosamid® takes a different approach to managing these symptoms. The hydrogel is injected into the knee and gradually integrates with the synovial lining, helping improve its elasticity and function.

Conditions Treated:

  • Osteoarthritis of the knee

Key benefits of Arthrosamid®

  • Single treatment – designed as a one-off injection rather than a course of repeated injections.
  • Non-surgical – the treatment is performed using local anaesthetic, without the need for knee surgery.
  • Quick procedure – the treatment itself takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
  • Same-day treatment – patients can generally return home on the day of treatment.
  • Gradual improvement – pain relief and functional improvement can develop over approximately 4–12 weeks.
  • Potentially long-lasting relief – clinical studies cited in the patient information report benefits lasting up to 5 years in some patients.

How does it work?

  • arthrosamid injection chichesterA different approach to knee pain Arthrosamid® is a soft, elastic hydrogel that is injected into the area surrounding your knee joint.

Once inside, it spreads throughout the fluid surrounding the joint and becomes part of the lining of your knee (the synovium) over the following 4-6 weeks.
Knee OA can cause this lining to become stiff and less able to function properly. Arthrosamid® works by increasing the elasticity of the the lining, helping it move and behave more like healthy tissue again.

What does that mean for you?

  • By improving the way the joint responds to everyday movement, Arthrosamid® can help significantly reduce pain and support better joint function up to 5 years.

Who may benefit?

Arthrosamid® may be considered for patients with knee osteoarthritis, particularly Grades 2–3 and some early Grade 4 cases, especially where pain is affecting everyday life and other non-surgical treatments have not provided sufficient relief.

However, Arthrosamid® is not suitable for everyone. A specialist assessment is important to determine whether it is an appropriate option based on your knee condition and individual circumstances.

  • Mr Ogho Obakponovwe, Orthopaedic Surgeon & Hip and Knee Specialist, can assess your knee and discuss whether Arthrosamid® may be suitable for you.
