Patient Referrals (Self funded & Private Insurance)
Patient Referrals (Self funded & Private Insurance)
Patients may request a consultation via several routines:
- Self-referral: Patients with MSK( musculoskeletal) problems can self refer to see Mr Obakponovwe.
- GP referral: Patients can be referred in after initially presenting to their general practitioner
- Allied health care professional referral: Patients can be referred in by specialist physiotherapists or chiropractors for a clinical review for a persisting MSK issue.
Private patients generally fall into two categories. Self-funding patients or those with private medical insurance.
Mr. Obakponovwe provides transparent information about fees and treatment options. Details of which are published on The Private Healthcare Information Network
For those with private medical insurance, his team works closely with the patients to ensure their policy covers the required care, including obtaining necessary approvals and providing relevant codes for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
Self-Funding
If you are self-funding your treatment, it’s important to understand all associated costs before proceeding. Most hospitals quote a package price for joint replacements and other operative procedures which include; a hospital fee, an anaesthetic fee and a surgeon fee. This bundle may also include a fixed amount if sessions of physiotherapy and out-patient follow up consultations.
In rare cases, if the surgical plan changes, your surgeon will inform you about alternative procedures and associated costs.
To comply with Royal College and GMC guidelines, we ensure you have all the information needed to provide Informed Consent. This includes: Written details, information sheets, and online resources about your procedure, including joint school.
Private Medical Insurance
If you have private medical insurance, approval from your insurer is required at each stage of treatment. Your insurer will need procedure codes for any surgical intervention.
Check your policy for:.
- Excess: The amount you may need to pay yourself.
- Coverage: Whether your policy fully covers your surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees. Some policies may only cover part of these fees, so it’s important to understand any shortfall you might need to pay.
Mr Obakponovwe is recognised by leading insurers, but not all participate in schemes like Bupa’s fee-assured program.
If your policy includes an excess clause, you may need to pay some or all of the costs. Your insurer will notify us of any shortfall after the initial invoice. A second invoice for the outstanding amount will then be sent to you. Please ensure you have this information ready when speaking with your insurer.
